2020 marks the 12^th year of FENC Classic Marathon, a year when FENC prepares to take on future challenges!

FENC Classic Marathon is considered the most localized marathon event. Though the threat of COVID-19 still looms over Taiwan, it didn’t deter the runners from participating. This marathon has long been a highly anticipated event, and regarded by marathon runners as a pilgrimage that is not to be missed. The event improves health, enhances the community, and promotes local cuisine, scenery and hospitality. FENC dedicated tremendous efforts in holding a marathon event enjoyed by both the runners and local residents!

The 2020 FENC Classic Marathon was held on October 24^th, and once again the event took place at Hsinpu Chemical Fiber Plant. In the past, runners had the options of running 5K, 9K, 21K and 42K. Considering the risk of clustering during the pandemic, 42K was removed from the options to minimize the risk and ensure runners’ safety. 
While the runners concentrated on the run, the event was also packed with a variety of activities, including tug of war, basketball games, and some fun games that tested participants’ skills and luck. The exciting games filled the day with fun and gave staff a chance to bond with each other.  

Another spotlight for the event is charity. Working with the local chapter of Huashan Social Welfare Foundation, FENC initiated a charity drive to help local seniors who live alone. The public was also invited to sell local produce and Hakka cuisine at the fair. After completing the race, runners could choose among the many options offered. The fair also served as a platform to market local specialties. 

The marathon runners were able to keep dry and maintain comfort despite sweating profusely during the run. The secret is the runner’s jersey for the 2020 marathon, which is made of recycled PET bottles. Combining the popular TopCool Fresh and anti-bacterial fibers, the jersey minimizes odor and suppresses bacteria, giving runners comfort and health while protecting the earth.

FENC Classic Marathon has enjoyed a 12-year history. Though our records are impressive, we didn’t stop there. Instead, we made FENC Classic Marathon synonymous with health and happiness for our staff and the runners. Together, let’s march toward the post-pandemic era, toward happiness, and toward a new life against the pandemic!
