FE SOGO Department stores win gold award twice
FE SOGO Department Stores is a pioneer in energy conservation, carbon reduction, and energy resource management in Taiwan's department store retail industry. It continues to promote corporate sustainability development and create low-carbon operating areas. Not only is it more energy-efficient, energy-efficient, and water efficient than its peers, but its climate governance is also in line with international standards. It has become the only member of the Asia Pacific retail department store industry under the EP100 Energy Productivity Enhancement International Initiative and the first large-scale chain department store in Taiwan to sign the SBT Science based Carbon Reduction Commitment. With outstanding green influence, it has won the gold award twice and has accumulated over 240 sustainability awards at home and abroad over the years.
Sophia C.W. Huang Chairman stated that FE SOGO Department stores view ESG as a growth engine for enhancing organizational resilience, addressing environmental and social issues through innovation and digitization, and opening up new markets for themselves. Starting from 2021, the company has introduced TCFD (Task Force on Climate related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)) to carry out climate governance, actively participating in international sustainability initiatives, and adopting ISO management standards to promote green transformation. From the original point and line energy-saving actions, the company has developed a comprehensive climate change strategy and worked with stakeholders to achieve sustainable spillover effects. This time, it won another gold medal, setting a carbon reduction model for the retail service industry to respond to climate change.
Energy conservation and carbon reduction have shown results! Yuan Ze University wins the National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award to create a sustainable model for higher education
Yuan Ze University once again demonstrates its sustainable strength in higher education! After winning the Bronze Award in 2024, it has once again won the award this year, showcasing its achievements in energy conservation, carbon reduction, recycled economy, educational innovation, and campus governance, becoming an important model for higher education to move towards sustainability.
Yuan Ze University has long regarded sustainability development as the core of its campus and requires all courses, research, and activities to correspond to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. For example, the "Management" course at the School of Management combines SDGs with design thinking, leading students to collaborate with businesses to transform ugly fruits and vegetables into specialty alcoholic beverages, or to use leftover steel materials to produce products for stray animals, thus implementing the concept of a recycled economy. The school has also established a "post bachelor's net zero special class", covering fields such as green technology, material recycling, energy integration, etc., to cultivate sustainable professionals.
In terms of campus governance, Yuan Ze University has been promoting smart energy-saving measures such as "power supply only when classrooms have classes" for more than a decade, and has gradually replaced high-efficiency lighting, variable frequency air conditioning, and renewable energy facilities. From 2022 to 2024, per capita electricity consumption will decrease by 7%, with significant energy-saving benefits. The school has simultaneously completed greenhouse gas inventory and third-party verification, and obtained ISO 50001 energy management system certification, comprehensively enhancing the institutionalization of energy governance. The installation of rooftop solar photovoltaic and dormitory solar water heaters further demonstrates the diverse aspects of campus energy transformation.
In terms of recycled economy, Yuan Ze University implements green procurement policies and promotes activities such as second-hand markets and book lockers, allowing students to practice resource reuse in their daily lives. At the same time, the school also assists Taoyuan Industrial Zone manufacturers in conducting carbon inventory and energy management, helping local industries move towards low-carbon transformation and expand their sustainable influence. Sustainable culture is deeply integrated into the daily lives of teachers and students. In addition to participating in the "Net Zero Green Life Alliance" to promote environmentally friendly restaurants, gathering points, and green transportation, the school has also introduced shared electric scooters this year to encourage low-carbon commuting. In addition, it continues to hold beach cleaning, environmental education, and second-hand material exchange activities, making the spirit of sustainability a part of campus culture.
