Partnering with Coca-Cola and 7-Eleven for Solving Plastic Waste Issues in Japan



China issued a ban on the import of plastic waste in 2018, leaving half of Japan’s plastic waste in need of alternative processing options. In 2019, Coca-Cola and 7-Eleven in Japan partnered with FENC on a closed-loop business model. Japanese consumers may recycle PET bottles at the local 7-Eleven. The bottles are then shipped to FIGP in Japan and Hsinpu Chemical Fiber Plant in Taiwan to be processed into rPET, a food-grade plastic that can be used as a packaging material for Coca-Cola. We have found the solution for the plastic waste problem in Japan.
